1. He Was the Last President Who Was a Founding Father

James Monroe was the last U.S. president who was also a Founding Father. He fought in the American Revolution, worked with George Washington, and helped build the country from the very beginning!

2. He Was Wounded in Battle—And Kept Fighting!

During the Revolutionary War, Monroe was just 18 years old when he was shot in the shoulder at the Battle of Trenton. But he didn’t give up—he survived and went on to help win the war for America!

3. He’s on the $5,000 Bill

You might have seen George Washington on the $1 bill or Abraham Lincoln on the $5, but did you know that James Monroe is on the $5,000 bill? It’s super rare, but it does exist!

4. He Helped Buy Florida

Monroe was president when the U.S. bought Florida from Spain in 1819. That means without Monroe, we might not have Disney World today!

5. He Created the “Monroe Doctrine”

The Monroe Doctrine was a rule Monroe made that told European countries to stay out of North and South America. It was a bold move that helped keep America safe and independent.

6. He Was So Popular, He Ran Unopposed!

Monroe was such a well-liked president that when he ran for a second term, no one ran against him! He won nearly every vote and led the country during what was called the “Era of Good Feelings.”
